As...As Comparisons

The 'as...as' structure expresses equality between two things. The negative form (not as/so...as) expresses inequality. Intensifiers (just as, almost as, twice as) add degree.

Structure

Equality

as + adjective/adverb + as (Our service is as fast as theirs.)

Inequality

not as / not so + adjective + as (This model is not as reliable as the original.)

Intensifiers

just as | almost as | nearly as | twice as | three times as + adjective + as

With nouns (quantity)

as much / as many + noun + as (We have as many clients as last year.)

Example Sentences

Our delivery time is as fast as our competitors'.
The new model is not as reliable as the original version.
This solution is just as effective as the more expensive alternative.
He is almost as experienced as the senior manager.
The updated platform is twice as fast as the old system.
She works as efficiently as anyone on the team.
The cost is not so high as we initially estimated.
Our customer satisfaction scores are nearly as high as last year.
The Q3 results are not as strong as we had hoped.
This branch generates as much revenue as the flagship location.

Common Mistakes

The new model is not so reliable than the original.

...not so reliable AS the original.

Use 'as' (not 'than') in the as...as structure.

She works as efficient as her colleague.

She works as efficiently as her colleague.

When comparing how someone performs an action, use an ADVERB (efficiently), not an adjective.
