Comparative Adjectives

Comparatives compare two people, things, or groups. Short adjectives take '-er + than'; long adjectives use 'more + adjective + than'. Several adjectives have irregular comparative forms.

Rules

Short adjectives (1–2 syllables)

adjective + -er + than (faster, cheaper, larger)

Spelling: CVC → double + -er

big → bigger | hot → hotter | thin → thinner

Spelling: -y → -ier

easy → easier | busy → busier | early → earlier

Long adjectives (3+ syllables)

more + adjective + than (more efficient, more reliable)

Irregular forms

good → better | bad → worse | far → farther/further | many/much → more | little → less
